MACHINISTA 2004: INTERNATIONAL ARTS & TECHNOLOGY FESTIVAL

Machinista 2004 Festival takes place in Glasgow from May 7th - 9th, having originated in 2003 in Perm, Russia (1386km east of Moscow). A migrating festival with a host of events exploring, celebrating and questioning the ideas of "artificial intelligence in the arts" and "wo/man-machine interaction", Machinista also includes an extensive online exhibition of accompanying works.

Machinista 2004 is organised by a team of 12 experienced curators, artists, journalists & researchers mainly based in Glasgow. We will present a widely diverging selection of projects from international artists and creators, including live music, audio-visual performances, software-based experiments and recycled hardware constructions. Machinista will also feature interactive installations, illustrated seminars and an Open Source software cafe for networking & workshops.

Machinista online exhibition is themed according to 3 categories: Art from the Machine: Gleams of the Inhuman, Artists against Machinic Standards & Full-screen Robovision. Individuals or groups, working in either artistic or scientific disciplines, were encouraged to submit proposals without genre limitations to any of these categories over a fixed time period, for potential selection at the Machinista Festival. Supervisors for each category have prepared a shortlist of highlights, which can be viewed on our website from 3rd April.
